BE PREPARED FOR PEOPLE'S WAR
--- Kevin Walsh, EASPF Editor
People's War With European-American Characteristics
Many nationalities have experienced people's war, and while we can learn from the experiences of others, it would be foolish to pretend that people's war among European-Americans in North America will precisely or even closely resemble the experiences of other peoples. I am not predicting that people's war is necessarily imminent in North America, but adequate preparation will make victory easier and may in some cases deter our enemies from repressive actions out of fear of triggering people's war. Two factors that particularly distinguish European-Americans from most other nationalities in preparation for people's war are that our people have much greater access to armaments than most nationalities and that our people are less accustomed to collective action than most peoples. The former is obviously an advantage. The latter has its disadvantages but can be turned to our advantage.
Physical Preparation
In many people's wars the main struggle has been to get effective armaments in the hands of the people. That is not likely to be the case with us. There are nearly as many firearms in the USA as there are people, and in most jurisdictions it is easy for most citizens to obtain firearms. Those who are able to do so should obtain firearms and learn how to use them competently. There are many classes available for civilians to learn pistol and rifle marksmanship and tactics. Jurisdictions that issue concealed weapons permits often require such classes. Don't consider such classes as mere obstacles to overcome. They can impart valuable information. Of course modificatons may be necessary for applicability to people's war. For example, a chest shot is easier to make if dealing with a lumpen element, but a head shot is better when shooting a soldier or police officer who is equipped with body armor.
There are some circumstances in which we may not have access to firearms and in which fighting is necessary. This should not paralyze us. It is possible to improvise weapons from a variety of ordinary objects and materials. At close range even unarmed combat can sometimes gain control of a cop's sidearm to be used against him.
People should also try to maintain basic physical fitness, as fatigue is a factor in hand-to-hand combat that may occur in people's war. Ordinary proletarians will not likely be able to obtain levels of marksmanship, unarmed martial arts, and physical fitness held by those who specialize in law enforcement, but some preparation is better than none. The "couch potato" lifestyle is often associated with subjecting onesself to cultural poisons of the enemy, such as pornography, decadent music, excessive escapism, and abuse of alcohol and drugs and should be avoided for that reason as well.
Psychological Preparation
A willingness to kill and a willingness to risk being killed or risk having one's loved ones be killed are essential to cultivate. The best weapons in the world are of no use without a willingness to use them and a willingness to face others trying to use weapons against you. It is also important to cultivate a willingness that innocent people will be killed as a result of resistance action. In many movies and television shows, the hero manages to solve the dilema without hurting any innocent people, but reality isn't like that. Real war has collateral damage, and we must face that. The enemy fills the media with condemnation of killing the innocent and sentimentality about our enemies to try to make us weak and hesitant. We must purge ourselves of such sentimentality. Yes, the soldier or police officer one kills may be one's fellow European-American and be of a similar social background and have a spouse and children, but that person has chosen to serve the enemy. We may hope that one day he turns away from serving the enemy and joins the people's war, but as long as he hasn't done that and is fighting for the enemy, he must be considered a legitimate target. Sentimentality about cops and soldiers only serves the enemy and makes the enemy's job easier. Sentimentality about "civilians" who are government officials or who are promoting oppressive policies is particularly insidious. If the individual is objectively helping the enemy, that individual is a legitimate target, whether armed or unarmed, in uniform or in street clothes. This includes the landlord who evicts you, the boss who fires you, and the neighbor or spouse who informs on you.
Thoughts tempting one to cowardice over fear of personal harm or masquerading as concern over how one's spouse and children will deal with one's death are perfectly natural, but cowardice can be combatted by logic and reason. Ask yourself if you would rather have your children grow up as orphans because you fought oppression or if you would rather have them grow up with you as slaves to the oppressors. Ask yourself if you would rather die in battle or live out your life under increasing oppression and servitude. Ask yourself if you would rather die in battle or surrender and rot in prison for years. When you combat your fears with reason, it soon becomes apparent that courage makes more sense for all involved than cowardice.
Ideological Preparation
The best weapons and the best psychological preparation are of little use if one doesn't know when it is appropriate to use violence. For this reason we must educate ourselves about the political situation in the country and understand the big picture. If the government makes a significant effort to disarm the people, that means people's war is necessary. It is possible to improvise weapons, but one is at a tremendous disadvantage if one voluntarily surrenders one's firearms rather than uses them against those trying to take them. If large numbers of people are deprived of their livelihoods, that also means people's war is necessary. People who become dependent on government handouts not to starve are not in a good position to resist that government. If large numbers of people are being detained by the government, people's war is necessary for obvious reasons.
The individuality of European-Americans can make organizing people's war difficult, but individual actions of a "lone wolf" nature are also a part of people's war and have some advantages. If one fights alone it is less likely that others will inform on one or that one will be irrationally obsessed by fear of informers. It is also less likely that others will be targetted for something one has done. Individual action is certainly appropriate if one is personally placed in an untenable situation. If one is faced with personal loss of weapons, one should certainly use them. If one is arrested, one should certainly resist arrest. Even if it seems the arrest is for a minor matter, being in handcuffs and locked up makes it easy for the enemy to pile on additional charges and makes it very difficult to fight back. If one is facing homelessness, one should certainly kill the boss and landlord responsible. Such individual resistance usually results indeath or imprisonment, but it also serves as a deterrent to the enemy. Like all bullies, they don't like to fight victims who will fight back.
Engaging in adventurist conspiracies when conditions are not yet ripe for people's war is self-destructive and only provides the enemy with excuses for repression. Such conspiracies are often started by government informers just to trap potential subversives. Those purchasing weapons and training with them should inform themselves of the laws regarding the legality of certain weapons and when and where they may be carried. Careless violation of the law without a revolutionary reason should be avoided as it only gives the enemy an excuse to crack down on potential revolutionaries.
Combating Defeatism
There is nothing wrong with a realistic and objective assessment of the enemy's strengths, but this should not be allowed to lead to defeatism. Many people who claim to be revolutionary go around preaching defeatism to serve the enemy. Some point out that the government has access to atomic weapons, artillery, advanced electronic sensors and even chemical and biological weapons and conclude from this that the government is invincible. The government that uses weapons of mass destruction on its own citizens destroys its own tax base and eliminates too many of its supporters along with the opposition. The soldiers who would actually be given orders to use such weapons also have family and friends in those communities, and it is unlikely any would obey such orders. Some point out that the soldiers and police are better armed and better trained than civilians conducting people's war. This is true, but we have some advantages over them. One is that the ordinary masses greatly outnumber the soldiers and the police. Another is that most soldiers and police are not fanatics. There are some "true believers" among them, but most of them joined to get some kind of financial advantage or career advantage and are not particularly eager to risk dying in the line of duty, particularly for doing things that enrage their own community. The Vietnamese managed to defeat a superpower in a people's war, and the USA was itself formed by a people's war against an 18th Century superpower. Victory is possible, if we're prepared.
